Just a reminder that we have rescheduled the upcoming Taskforce meeting for the Strategic Plan for 9:00 am, Friday June 20 @ the Horry County Library in Conway. The Transportation Committee submitted 11 goals for the session on 6/20/08. These goals were talked of a number of times but not formally submitted to the Task Force until this morning:
1. I-73.
2. Myrtle Beach International Airport- expansion and growth.
3. Increased and interconnected rail for goods and materials (plan rights of way now).
4. Mass transit in the form of light rail and buses.
5. Rail and road connectivity to regional ports.
6. Intra-city train travel (long term goal).
7. Business and population center (concentration and centralization) zoning to lessen sprawl.
8. Primary and secondary road interconnectivity between neighborhoods and communities (reduce the number of cul-de-sac communities).
9. Public relations and marketing effort to education the population on alternative modes of travel.
10. HOV and HYBRID lanes on major commuter highways.
11. Acquire government incentives to increase mass transit, and energy efficient and economical transportation.
The Task Force has scrutinized this, and the 5 most pressing issues will be selected as the primary goals for transportation. Blake will be posting the final 5, next week.
